Connect Codex to Scantelio

Connect Codex through HTTP MCP, select project permissions and review Scantelio findings without sharing secrets in chat.

Scantelio editorial team · Updated

1. Before you connect

  1. Open your project folder in Codex. The assistant can only inspect files you allow it to access.
  2. Have your Scantelio account ready. During authorization, select the workspace and project you want to check.
  3. No Scantelio API key is needed, and you do not need to send .env files to chat. Sign-in happens in your browser. Connecting does not start a scan or purchase a plan.

MCP connects Scantelio tools to your assistant. Adding the server, signing in and approving an individual scan are separate steps.

2. Quick connection

Open a terminal, not the AI chat: Terminal on Mac, PowerShell on Windows, or Terminal → New Terminal in your editor. The CLI must be installed; having the desktop app does not necessarily install a terminal command.

TERMINAL · check installation

Paste this line and press Enter. You should see a version number.

codex --version
TERMINAL · connect in one line

For macOS/Linux (zsh/bash) and PowerShell 7+. Copy the entire line, paste into your terminal and press Enter. Sign-in starts only after adding the server succeeds.

codex mcp add scantelio --url https://scantelio.com/api/v1/mcp && codex mcp login scantelio

A browser opens or a sign-in link appears. Complete step 3 below. If your Claude Code version does not support the login command, use /mcp as explained below.

Manual setup and older terminal versions

Run commands individually. Continue only when the previous command succeeds. This also works in Windows PowerShell 5.1, which does not support &&.

TERMINAL · step 1

Paste only this line and press Enter.

codex mcp add scantelio --url https://scantelio.com/api/v1/mcp
TERMINAL · step 2

Paste only this line and press Enter.

codex mcp login scantelio

3. Authorize in the browser

  1. Check that you are on scantelio.com and sign in to your account.
  2. Choose the intended workspace, project and client type. Review the requested permissions and return address.
  3. Press Connect and return to your editor. Open a new chat if necessary so the assistant can see the tools.

Keep the terminal open until sign-in finishes. If no browser opens, use the link shown by the client. Enter test-account credentials only in protected Scantelio forms.

4. What to send to the assistant

Now open the assistant chat in Codex, not your terminal. Paste and send the full message below. If the client requests Scantelio tool access, review the request and allow the required actions.

MESSAGE FOR YOUR AI · paste into chat

This is a ready-to-send task. The button copies only the task text.

Use Scantelio tools. Check the connection and selected project. Read the setup requirements. Inspect available project files without reading or transmitting secrets. Propose targets, technologies and safe test scenarios. Separate observed facts from assumptions. Explain which inputs are missing and where to add them. Do not confirm ownership, give consent or start scanning on my behalf. Provide the configuration link for my review.

Expect connection details, missing inputs and proposed configuration. If the assistant only writes advice, ask it to call the connection and setup-readiness tools: that confirms MCP is actually being used.

5. Review configuration and verify the run

Open the dashboard link. Review the target, environment, test roles, object owners and operations. Verify ownership using DNS or a verification file. Prepare staging and provide separate consent for active scenarios. The assistant can help with configuration, but this connection does not automatically publish DNS records or deploy staging. Configuration approval and starting a run are separate actions; plan quotas still apply.

In Dashboard → AI assistants, check the last-request time. Authorization without any requests does not yet prove a working connection. You can revoke access there too.

Troubleshooting the Scantelio connection

The MCP server could not be added

  • command not found / command not recognized: install the CLI using the official instructions below and reopen your terminal. Adding an API key will not fix a missing command.
  • Server already exists: inspect the URL of the existing scantelio entry. Keep other server configurations; to sign in again, run only the login command.

The server is installed but tools or projects are missing

  • No tools: check that the server is enabled, sign-in is complete and your administrator allows the integration. Restart the chat or editor.
  • Project missing: check your Scantelio account, workspace and permissions.

Instructions were checked against client documentation. Installation and sign-in with real editor accounts require separate verification; external acceptance is not claimed. If blocked, send support your client name, version and error text without secrets.
